In the starting, The way of the world summary as we know that Arabella is a beautiful lady who is a widow her husband has left very much wealth for her. She has an illegal relationship with Merabell. After it, she gets married to Fainall but Arabella has confused in her mind she thinks that if she proved to be pregnant or her secret discloses before anyone then it will be harmful to her. Although Arabella and Merabell now are good friends they have broken their past relationships but Arabella is afraid of the people. Now Mirabelle falls in love with Millamant who live with Arabella’s mother Lady Wishfort. They want to get married but the problem is that they have to take a permit from Lady Wishfort. Here the question arises why is very significant to the permission of Lady Wishfort, the answer is that wealth. If Lady Wishfort permits them then they will gain a huge amount by Lady Wishfort. For this he visits Lady Wishfort’s house and praises her he follows in everywhere is why Lady Wishfort feels that either he loves her very much but this is a wrong notion and this notion changes into the right path when Mrs. Marwood who is the friend of Lady Wishfort tells her that he actually loves her niece. Hearing that news she becomes furious and decides she will never get married both. In the background of the play, one night ago, before starting of the play, Lady Wishfort arranges a dance party where the club crew is present all the members of the club see Lady Wishfort’s insults very of Merabell and also say to get out of her party. Here Merabell feels ashamed but he disheartens too much when Merabell doesn’t say a single word against her aunty. After it, Merabell takes a vow he will marry Millamant at any cost. Merabell runs a trick here he has a servant whose name is Foible. Merabell arranges the marriage between Foible and Lady Wishfort’s servant so that he may know the secrets of the family of Lady Wishfort. Foible also knows that the love affair between Mrs. Marwood and son in law of Lady Wishfort who is Fainal.
In the next scene of the play, The Way of the World summary starts here Merabell and Fainall are sitting beside and playing cards. Indeed they are confirmed enemies in this play. Merabell unveils that he knows very well he has an illegal relationship with Mrs. Marwood. And this thing very less people know about it. Meanwhile, Merabell’s servants come and tell that Lady Wishfort is going to marry Millamant with Mr. Rolland who has very much wealth. Actually, this guy is not real indeed he is also a servant of Mirabella and he is also running a trick. His game was going on the perfect path whenever Mrs.Marwood does not know about it. When she knows that she goes towards her lover and unveils the secret they decide to take revenge on Merabell and blackmail Lady Wishfort. At that noon Millamant accepts the proposal of Mirabella. On the other side, Sir Wilful is also an admirer of Millamant her aunt also wants to marry Sir Wilful. But sir Wilful proposal is declined by Millamant. Fainall and Millamant are in seeking to fail the plan of Merabell. Fainall arrests all the servant of Merabell who is helping Merabella’s plan. On the other hand, Fainall blackmails Lady Wishfort in this sense Arabella’s marriage has taken place because she had an illegal relationship with Merabell and now he is going to inform everyone in this town if she wants to save her honour as well as her daughter then she must be given all the wealth of her daughter and her niece. And one more condition is added by Fainal Lady Wishfort also does not get married without Fainall’s permission otherwise her wealth also directly goes to her husband which he doesn’t want at any cost. The whole situation forces Millamant to marry Sir Wilful so that she may save her wealth from Fainall.
Merabell offers to Lady Wishfort he can save her wealth with his plan then Lady Wishfort pleases too much and says that if he does so then she willingly permits him to marry Millamant. Merabell very optimistically declares that Fainall and
Mrs. Marwood has an illegal relationship then Lady Wishfort is not impressed by his plan. But Merabell surprises to all having said when Arabella was getting married then Arabella had appointed trustee to Merabell she knew that Fainall could deceive her. Now he has no right to gain the wealth of his wife.
At the end of the play, Fainall and Mrs Marwood are defeated and Fainall. The way of the world summary, themes and characters are the soul of the play, these things reveal moral weakness and evils.
